The following persons may become members of co-operative societies-
- an individual competent to contract under section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 (9 of 1872);
- any other co-operative society;
- the Central Government; and
- Any classes or associations of persons as notified by the Lieutenant Governor.
The Lieutenant-Governor may declare any person or class of persons engaged in or carrying on any profession, business or employment as ‘disqualified’ from being admitted in co-operative societies. He may also set a time limit for the continuation of membership of certain persons or associations. The Lieutenant- Governor must make the declaration in the Delhi Gazette.
